Description

Hirano-go, the hometown of Guide Hiromi, is a historic area located within Hirano-ward, just 30 minutes by train from Osaka’s bustling Namba and Dotonbori areas, and only 15 minutes from Tennoji. Known as one of Osaka’s main areas, Hirano-go covers a settlement of about 900 meters north to south and 800 meters east to west, with its origins tracing back to the Asuka Period. In the Middle Ages, it developed into an autonomous moat-surrounded city alongside neighboring Sakai City. During the Edo period (1603-1867), the area grew into a significant center for cotton distribution. Fortunately, Hirano-go was spared from the widespread destruction of World War II, and today, visitors can still find old temples, shrines, and remnants of the moats that once encircled the town.

Today, Hirano-go is a community-driven project where local residents play a key role in its development. Through the “Machigurumi Museum” initiative, townspeople open their homes, workplaces, and other spaces to visitors as “Eco Museums.” With around 19 small “museums” offering a variety of local experiences, this project has garnered international attention, attracting visitors from organizations like JICA and people from all over the world eager to learn about it.

The town’s friendly and unique residents add another layer of charm to this vibrant area. This tour offers a chance to immerse yourself in local life, experiencing the rich history and warm community spirit from multiple perspectives.
