Description

Hiikawa Washi Studio stands as the last remaining workshop in Mitoya, a town once bustling with paper-makers during the Edo period. Renowned for its durable, supple, and beautifully crafted washi paper, this workshop invites visitors to participate in an immersive paper-making experience. Under the expert guidance of master craftsman Shinji Idani, you’ll create your very own piece of B4-sized washi using local natural materials such as kozo (mulberry). The process preserves traditional techniques while producing paper with a soft, unique texture.

Beyond the workshop, visitors can purchase exquisite paper products, from traditional stationery to modern items like tapestries and cushions, blending centuries-old craftsmanship with contemporary design.
